The big news on Tuesday was that Rob Gronkowski is coming out of retirement to play pro football again as the New England Patriots traded him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that the league’s standard player contract prohibits players from engaging “in any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury.”
Thus, Gronk will not be able to wrestle while under contract with an NFL Team. Adam “Pacman” Jones found himself in some legal troubles with the NFL when he was taking bumps in TNA Wrestling several years ago.
Gronk is currently the WWE 24/7 Champion. While the company has joked that he’ll have to defend the title going forward, the company will have to get the title off of him in a safe way.
Gronk made an appearance on Friday Night SmackDown back in March and served as the host of WrestleMania 36 where he pinned Mojo Rawley to become the champion.
WWE had some big plans for him at this year’s SummerSlam, which are now nixed. You can read about what the company had in mind involving the NFL star here.
