Earlier this week it was reported that former NFL player Rob Gronkowski had signed a deal with WWE.
He’s slated to make his debut on Friday Night SmackDown next week. Also, the current plans are for him to make an appearance at WrestleMania 36 but he won’t be wrestling at the show.
Instead, rather he’ll be there to build-up to a match after WrestleMania.
In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Gronkowski is expected to have a couple of matches as part of his WWE contract.
Meltzer also noted that it was widely believed that Gronkowski would do SummerSlam this year in Boston. The reason for such belief is due to him playing his whole professional career with the New England Patriots and is extremely popular in the city.
Meltzer also speculated that Gronkowski could possibly have a match at WrestleMania (likely the Andre the Giant battle royal) if the company wanted to do so.
He recalled the 1986 WrestleMania where WWE did a Battle Royal with a number of the participants being NFL players who had never done pro wrestling.
