Update on WWE-TNA sale rumors

As noted on Saturday, The New York Post reported that there were rumors regarding WWE putting in a bid to buy TNA. They also said that Sinclair Broadcasting (ROH’s parent company) recently put in a bid for the company.

Dave Meltzer noted on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio that those with knowledge of TNA’s situation have not heard anything about WWE putting in a bid and the Sinclair talks happened months ago and no one has heard anything about a recent bid from them. That doesn’t mean that WWE can’t eventually offer to buy the company but, as of now, the story does not appear to be accurate.

TNA is in a very rough spot right now because they will need money to fund the next set of TV tapings in October. The costs run between $600,000 to $800,000 for a set of tapings. They’ve gotten funding from Aroluxe Marketing and Billy Corgan for past tapings so it will be interesting to see if they can get another round of funding to keep things going. Corgan is attempting to buy the company but there are hurdles that he needs to jump through to get that done with Aroluxe and Dixie Carter owning shares of the company.
