One of the big stories this week in the television industry was about the departure of Chris McCumber as the President of NBC Universal’s USA and SyFy Networks.
McCumber was a big ally of WWE and had been in charge at the USA Network since 2011 and the SyFy Network since 2016. It’s unclear what this means, if anything, for WWE.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that McCumber was known to be a big Paul Heyman supporter and he was not happy when Heyman was removed from his Executive Director role on Monday Night Raw.
McCumber was said to be sold on the idea that ratings would decline but they would increase over time as new a new generation of stars were created, which is what Heyman was looking to do.
McCumber was said to be less happy when the emphasis was put back on the older stars when Heyman left. It’s unclear if he still felt that way when ratings for Raw began to stabilize in August for the ThunderDome shows.
Now, Heyman is completely off of Raw since Brock Lesnar is a free agent. Heyman is now working with Roman Reigns on SmackDown. Click here for backstage news on the Heyman/Reigns relationship.
