During an exclusive interview on WrestlingNews.co’s “The Velvet Ropes,” Lisa Marie Varon (fka Victoria) shared a recent and heartwarming story about WWE Superstar Bayley paying tribute to her during a match on SmackDown. Varon, who was sitting in the front row for the event, was brought to tears by the unexpected gesture of respect from the current-generation star. Scroll down to watch the interview.
A Ringside Surprise
Varon explained that she attended Friday Night SmackDown earlier this year in San Diego when the special moment occurred. “When I went to San Diego, to the arena, Bayley, she said, ‘Hey, can I do the spider web, the spinning sidewalk slam?’ And I go, ‘Oh, please, please,'” Varon recalled.
A Pointed Tribute
The moment was made even more special because of how Bayley executed it. Knowing that Varon was in the crowd, Bayley made sure to acknowledge her directly before performing her signature move. “She came like this… she went right before the move, she went like this, and pointed at me and did the move,” Varon described. “And I was like, I started crying.”
A Humble Reaction
The interaction continued during a commercial break, when Bayley came over to speak with the legend she had just honored. The exchange highlighted Varon’s trademark humility. “[Bayley] came out to to give me hugs, because [she said] ‘I can’t believe that you’re watching one of my matches,'” Varon recounted. “And I was like, ‘No, I can’t believe you’re actually doing a move and paying homage to me.’ You know what I mean?”
Still an “Average Girl”
Varon explained that even after all of her success, she still sees herself as a normal person and is often taken aback when current stars show her such reverence. “You still live in that bubble that I’m like, I’m still like an average girl… I know I’ve done a lot in my life, but I don’t see myself as a celebrity,” she said. “And I get nervous… when someone’s so nervous to meet me, it makes me uncomfortable, because I’m like, ‘Oh no, no, no, please, don’t be nervous, please.’… I’m a normal person.”
