The WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event is considered by many to be the second biggest event of the year for the company just behind WrestleMania as it kicks off the road to WrestleMania.
WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon wasn’t at the show on Sunday night from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Both RingSide News and Fightful Select reported the news.
RSN’s report notes that while McMahon wasn’t present at the show, he was still ‘very involved’ throughout the day via telephone. The reason for his absence wasn’t exactly known, but McMahon has missed a few TV events in the wake of his brother, Rod McMahon, passing away on January 20th.
Triple H, with Kevin Dunn and Bruce Prichard by his side, was in charge of the Royal Rumble event.
Fightful’s report noted that WWE had the lineup for the show set by Sunday morning and what fans saw on the broadcast was the order they had planned. This is different from what usually happens during big shows as the lineup has changed all the way up until the show was actually on the air.
