If you thought that things seemed a little off during the in-ring segment with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar then you would be correct. Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar came out to the ring on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw to address Bill Goldberg. The plan is that Lesnar and Goldberg will fight at next month’s Survivor Series. Locally the show was billed as Brock Lesnar’s homecoming so it’s not a surprise that the fans in Minnesota would give him a great reaction.
The idea of the segment was to get the fans to chant for Goldberg but that did not work out so well. Heyman did manage to get a few Goldberg chants but they were eventually drowned out by “Suplex City” and “Goldberg sucks” chants. On this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that Vince McMahon was not happy as the fans were chanting “Goldberg sucks” and the segment ended abruptly because McMahon cut it short. Alvarez said that McMahon “blew a gasket” backstage. You have to give credit to Heyman for trying (and I’m sure it wasn’t his idea to try to get the crowd to turn on Brock) but that crowd in Minnesota is never going to boo Brock.
I’m not sure that it’ll get better when Goldberg faces Lesnar in Toronto at Survivor Series because Lesnar is living in Canada these days and there are many fans in Canada that still remember the superkick to Bret Hart in WCW that ultimately led to the end of Hart’s wrestling career so something tells me that it will be a 50/50 crowd at best in Toronto. We’ll see. If you missed the Heyman promo, there is a clip below. Bill Goldberg returns to Raw next week.
