This week during the Wrestling Observer Radio Raw recap, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez pointed to the logic holes in the segment with Seth Rollins and Dominik Mysterio.
Meltzer and Alvarez pointed out how there were developmental wrestlers around ringside who stood there while Dominik was taking a beating from Rollins and Murphy. It was also pointed out that there were several wrestlers in the back who could have ran out to help but none of them did.
Kevin Owens is someone who could have ran in to help Dominik since he was backstage and Owens was briefly involved in a program with Rollins last month but future plans have been dropped. Meltzer noted that there was more planned for Owens and Rollins but when Rey Mysterio decided that he would stay with the company, they took Owens out of the program.
“Kevin Owens was there who is another, you know,” Meltzer said. “He’s fallen out of his program. He was supposed to be in a program with Seth until they just dropped it when Rey agreed to stay.”
Owens was featured on Raw this week but he was just there to lose to Randy Orton and the bigger story was the closing angle between Orton and Ric Flair that was intended to get heat on Orton ahead of his WWE Championship match with Drew McIntyre.
As of this writing, Owens is not listed on the card for SummerSlam and with just one more Raw before the pay-per-view, it doesn’t look like there will be enough time to get him in a storyline for the show.
