Vince McMahon was keeping an eye on what was going on during the NBA Finals game between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that things were moved around because of what was happening during the game.
“I can tell you for a fact that last night during Raw they were monitoring the NBA game and I believe that things were moved around as a result of what was happening during the game. They do keep an eye on things,” Alvarez said.
He didn’t mention what exactly was changed but one thing that sticks out is that the original preview on WWE.com listed The Revival challenging Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder for the Raw Tag Team Championships. Late in the day on Monday, The Usos were added to the match to make it a Triple Threat Match.
This is nothing news. In the past, WWE would time out segments big sporting events, with the idea being to get a big segment on during halftime with the idea being that fans would be changing the channel to see what is happening on Raw.
WWE was expecting a bigger than usual rating for the game because of the return of Kevin Durant. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Durant had to leave the game due to what is believed to be a torn Achilles. That did not help WWE because Raw still drew one of their lowest ratings in modern history with 2.13 million viewers. Click here for the hourly breakdown.
The good news for WWE is that there will be no NBA competition next week because the remaining NBA Finals games will take place on Thursday and Sunday, if necessary.
