A lot has been said about the issues at this week’s WWE TV tapings.
There was said to be chaos backstage during the Raw tapings on Monday with tons of script rewrites and there were issues on Tuesday that caused them to only tape one episode of SmackDown instead of two, as originally planned.
There is more pressure than ever before to get the ratings back up after the recent investors call and McMahon has said that one of the things that needs to be done is to build new stars.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that McMahon held a meeting before the investor call on 7/30. The meeting was described as brutal because Vince approved nothing.
There was another meeting on 7/31 that lasted four hours and Vince reportedly talked forever about how much he loves Bayley’s new persona. Vince also talked about how he sees Peyton Royce and Bianca Belair as singles stars.
This may explain why we are seeing so much of Sasha Banks and Bayley on TV these days and why The IIconics are being featured more on Raw. Bianca Belair is also getting more TV and she has begun a feud with Zelina Vega. People have been praising her behind-the-scenes even when she was in NXT.
The hotshot booking for Monday’s Raw helped to get WWE a bump in the ratings but it’s clear that building for the future will be the key to long-term growth.
