There was an interesting note in the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter about Vince McMahon.
McMahon, who is known to be a workhorse and rarely takes vacations, no longer attends SmackDown Live. As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, his appearance last week was a rare one because he is usually back in the office in Stamford on Tuesday but he’s usually part of the conference calls for the show and still oversees the script and makes changes so he is still heavily involved with everything. That probably explains why there is a more relaxed atmosphere backstage compared to Monday Night Raw where people are walking on eggshells around McMahon.
It will be interesting to see how things change when SmackDown 1000 moves to Fox next October and whether McMahon will choose to stay on the road after Raw so he could be backstage at SmackDown Live.
As previously reported, Fox is pushing WWE to make SmackDown a show that focuses more on sports rather than comedy. The reason why Daniel Cormier was called for a tryout is that Fox specifically wanted him on board so it seems likely that he will get the job.
The idea is that Fox will be promoting the show across their sports programming including the NFL on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons.
