As PWInsider first reported today, there was a real-life backstage confrontation after SmackDown after the closing segment that saw them exchange their titles.
During the live broadcast, there was an attempt from Flair to pull the title from Lynch and then Lynch threw the SmackDown title at Flair but that was not how things were supposed to happen.
talkSPORT reports that there was supposed to be a ‘cat and mouse’ situation with Lynch getting her hands on the Raw Women’s Championship before Flair pulled it back but a timing error led to the title being dropped on the floor, which was not supposed to happen.
The women in the ring, including Sonya Deville, were not happy because they knew that Sasha Banks still needed to walk out to the ring as the show was about to end. After the show is when things got heated backstage between Lynch and Flair.
talkSPORT reports that their issues go back a few years and Flair did not appreciate being called “plastic” during a promo from a couple of years ago. It was also said that there was unhappiness from both women about the title exchange segment and there was debate about it throughout the day.
talkSPORT added that Flair pushed to lose the Raw Women’s Title to Bianca Belair on Raw this past Monday because she is a big fan of Belair and her belief was that this could have been a big win for her.
Vince McMahon was said to be unhappy backstage because Flair left the Gorilla position without talking to him. She is said to be headed to Orlando to support Andrade at AEW Dynamite.
All of this may explain Andrade’s tweet last night when he tweeted, “FU WWE.”
Here is a tweet from 2018 that alludes to backstage issues between Lynch and Flair:
