As noted earlier, Ringside News reported that WWE is keeping a tight lid on WrestleMania plans this year and most of the talent has no idea what they will be doing on the show this year. The mid and undercard talent has no idea if there will be a spot for them on the show.
WrestlingNews.co reached out to a WWE source and we got the following response:
“Yes, the story is accurate. Vince was upset when word got out that the main event [for WrestleMania] would be Edge and Roman. I think that was the moment when he decided to not clue in the wrestlers on future plans.”
The news about Edge and Reigns headlining the show got out first in Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter before Edge announced his plans at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
The source also noted that there was unhappiness about The Miz’s plans for Mania leaking out since that gives away to the fans that he will be dropping the title soon since he is currently planned to be in a tag team match on the show.
As of this writing, the two matches announced for WrestleMania are Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship against Edge and Sasha Banks defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair. Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship seems likely and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Damian Priest and Bad Bunny vs. The Miz and John Morrison is also planned for the show.
Aside from those matches, everyone is in the dark on plans for WrestleMania.
