Vince McMahon wants to do something ‘wacky’ for WWE SummerSlam

As noted earlier, PWInsider Elite reported that WWE has been considering moving SummerSlam from the Performance Center to a boat or the beach.

A Wrestling Observer Live listener asked about this report and Bryan Alvarez said that he doesn’t know if they will do the show on a boat but he does know that Vince McMahon wants something different.

“I don’t think so. I know this – I know Vince wants something wacky for SummerSlam,” Alvarez said.

He continued, “He doesn’t want it to be just another SummerSlam in an empty arena with a bunch of fans wearing masks. He wants to do something different and I’m not sure what it is. I think PWInsider was talking about a bunch of potential different locations.  Which actually they’ve done when you think about the Boneyard Match or whatever. I don’t know what they’re gonna do but he wants to do something. We’re gonna find out very soon what his latest wacky plan is. He wants to do something different from what they’ve been doing for the last several pay-per-views.”

There are less than 4 weeks left until SummerSlam so WWE will have to decide on something soon. Presumably, they would use a beach in nearby Orlando. An outdoor event is much safer than running shows inside of the Performance Center so this could be a temporary solution for shows beyond SummerSlam. AEW Dynamite has been running most of their weekly shows at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, an open air venue and they have yet to have a COVID-19 outbreak. It will be interesting to see if Vince decides to tapes future Raw and SmackDown shows on the beach after SummerSlam.
