Vince McMahon was not a fan of the WWE Raw Underground segments

As noted earlier, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Raw Underground is done…at least for now.

Originally, the concept was scrapped because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak that primarily affected people in NXT. Since many of the wrestlers from NXT/Performance Center were being used around the ring during the Underground segments, it was decided a couple of weeks ago to postpone those segments.

Dave Meltzer reported that it was later decided to completely scrap the idea because they didn’t want to put their Raw crew at risk if there was another outbreak.

Raw Underground was a worked fight club idea that Shane McMahon had wanted to do for years. Shane has presented other MMA-inspired ideas over the years but they would get shot down by Vince.

We were told that although the COVID-19 concerns were the primary reasons for the segments being scrapped, Vince was never fully on board with the concept and he didn’t “get it,” according to one WWE source.

WrestlingNews.co was told that Vince only approved the idea because he was looking for some out-of-the-box ideas that could help boost ratings but it was clear from the beginning that he wasn’t in love with the fight club idea.

One source told us that they wouldn’t be shocked if the Raw Underground segments are done for good.
