Our friends at Fightful.com had a chance to speak with former WWE writer Vince Russo. Russo, who is credited by many as one of the driving forces behind the Attitude Era, revealed that he recently reached out to Vince McMahon about a return to the company. It’s not the first time that there have been talks. He was back with WWE for a brief stint in 2002 before moving on to Impact Wrestling and has reached out to WWE since his run with Impact but McMahon seemingly hasn’t been too receptive about bringing Russo back.
“I’ve reached out to Vince McMahon in the last week,” Russo said. He continued, “I reached out to him and he got back to me.”
Russo said that he is still a wrestling fan at heart but he “hate’s today’s product. To me, it’s not professional wrestling. I don’t want to be the guy sitting here and critiquing the problem without saying ‘hey, here’s my olive branch, I want to help you, I think I can help you’ as the numbers continue to go down every week’ so I had to reach out.” He said that he offered to contribute. He characterized the talk as an exchange but did not elaborate.
So, was McMahon receptive this time? Russo said, “Bro, Vince never seems receptive. His response is always a couple of words. He’s the same guy who told me I don’t see why you don’t get a nanny to [take care] of your kids.”
Here’s a clip of Russo talking about his exchange with McMahon:
