REPORT: WWE Staff Hadn’t Heard About Vince Russo Talks With Nick Khan, Some ‘Laughing It Off’

WWE agents, producers, writers and road staff had not heard about Vince Russo's reported talks with Nick Khan until Conrad Thompson's column, according to Fightful Select, with some influential names laughing it off.

Vince Russo’s reported talks with WWE President Nick Khan about a creative role were news to most of the company, according to Fightful Select.

Sources at WWE headquarters heard that Khan had conversations with Russo, but Fightful said it is not sure how serious they were. Sources familiar with the situation said Russo was either at WWE headquarters at one point or was under consideration for a visit.

None of the agents, producers, writers or staff who travel on the road had heard about it, according to the report, and some influential names were “laughing it off.” Even people who work closely with Khan said it had not been brought up to them, and that they first heard about it from Conrad Thompson’s report.

Conrad Thompson’s report on Vince Russo and WWE

Thompson wrote in the debut of his weekly Uncrowned column on Yahoo Sports that he heard Russo had conversations with Khan over the summer about returning to WWE’s creative team. When Thompson followed up a few weeks ago, he was told the idea “died on the vine.”

Thompson, who hosts podcasts including Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard and 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff, said he believes Russo’s reputation is what would stop him from getting the job, not his ability. He suggested WWE could use Russo as a creative consultant working from home.

Russo was WWF’s head writer during the Attitude Era before leaving for WCW in October 1999. He briefly returned to WWE’s creative team in the summer of 2002. He later worked for TNA and most recently Juggalo Championship Wrestling, which he left in September.

WWE has not commented on either report.

The Russo talks came up on today’s Wrestling News Desk, which also covers Bruce Prichard expected to step down from WWE creative after WrestleMania 43:
