Washington Post reporter gets nasty reaction from some fans for Jinder Mahal article

Marissa Payne’s article in the Washington Post on the controversy surrounding Jinder Mahal’s Smackdown Live promo has received a mixed reaction from fans with some people offended by it because, as many have put it, came off as racist towards Asian people. Others defended the promo because it’s in line with what professional wrestling has done for many years as a way to put heat on a heel.

Opposing viewpoints are always encouraged but then there’s the small percentage of fans that attempt to make the rest of us look bad. Some of the reaction to Payne’s article has been cringeworthy.

Check out some of the responses she’s gotten from some of the WWE fanbase:

Obviously, that doesn’t represent most WWE fans but it’s unfortunate that there are people out there that can’t articulate their disagreement without resorting to disgusting (racist and sexist, in this case) insults.

As noted on Wednesday, someone in WWE must have realized that the promo was a bad idea because it has yet to be posted on YouTube or their other social media accounts. It will be interesting to see what the creative direction will be next week as they continue the build towards Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at the WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
