Becky Lynch has been absolutely brilliant since her heel turn at WWE SummerSlam over the weekend.
Lynch attacked Charlotte Flair after “The Queen” won the SmackDown Live Women’s Title in their Triple Threat match against Carmella in Brooklyn. The Irishwoman had become fed up with Flair always stealing her spotlight. Initially Lynch was supposed to receive a Singles match with Carmella for the title at SummerSlam.
Upon Flair’s return from injury, however, she was added into the match. On SmackDown Live this past Tuesday, Lynch cut an amazing promo on Flair before the pair engaged in an all-out brawl. In an interview with Gorilla Position today, Lynch let some more verbal barbs fly.
Staying in character for the interview, Lynch did some of her best promo work to date. Here’s what she had to say:
“I appreciate that they (the fans) wanted to see me win, but I didn’t get the gold. I think I’ve been preoccupied too much with keeping everyone onside. That hasn’t done me any favors. So i have to reevaluate everything and reevaluate what I was putting my priorities on. And if that was getting the crowd on my side, If that was getting a friend on my side then I’ve been doing it wrong.
“Because there’s one reason that I came to WWE and that was to be great. I’m not achieving that. I have to look at everything and look at the fact that I’m not on the front of the posters all the time, I’m not on the front of the DVDs, and why is that? It’s certainly not because of me because I’ve been working my a** off the entire time I’ve been here.
“I haven’t dropped the ball once. But anytime that Charlotte Flair shows up, then it’s all about her. It’s all bout her. When I was the first woman drafted to SmackDown Live, this show as entirely about me. That title was built because of me, because the people wanted me to have a championship.
“Because I deserved it. And because Charlotte Flair had stolen it for me time and time again, when it was the Divas Title or when it was the Women’s Title or before there was a brand split. And then of course, she gets drafted to SmackDown Live and again, it becomes all about her.”
Lynch then went on to rant about never getting a fair shot at a title. She speculated that perhaps she’s not “blonde enough” or has “enough enhancements” to get a fair shake:
“2017 I received one title match. And that was at WrestleMania and it was a six-way. I haven’t been given a fair shot at all. I am the best on this roster – both Raw and SmackDown. And I’ve proven that time and time again. Yet I don’t get the opportunity. Why is that? Is it because I’m not blonde enough? Is that it? Is it because I don’t have enough enhancements? Is that it?
“I’m treated like the read-headed step child of the entire Women’s Division! Yet I have proven time and time again that I am the money-maker. I am the person that people are going to tune in to see, the person that they care about – that they want to see me win! And yet its been stolen from me every single time.”
