WWE Superstar The Big Show is an ambassador for the Special Olympics so you can imagine how he feels about U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos proposing major budget cuts for the games during this fiscal year.
DeVos says she plans on cutting all $18 million that has been allocated by the government for the Special Olympics.
“I’m appalled, to tell you the truth. 18 million dollars is the entire allocated budget for the Special Olympics,” Big Show said. He said that not only is he the ambassador for the Special Olympics but he’s also an ambassador for doing the right thing.
He continued, “It literally makes zero sense. The message that she’s sending is that people with special needs, children with special needs, aren’t important enough to be part of society.”
Show said the money does so much for a quarter of a million kids and they will be directly affected. “This is like the most ridiculous budget cut, one-sided bulls**t that could ever be done,” Big Show says.
Show said he is not a political guy but this is very important to him.
“It’s not about kids running and competing for medals … These kids are seen by doctors. There are so many education things, group programs, things that help them improve their quality of life.” He added, “To take away that opportunity, it’s just a horrible, callous, insensitive decision.”
