Cathy Kelley caught up with UFC World Heavyweight Champion while on the red carpet before last night’s ESPY Awards and he had some things to say to Brock Lesnar.
Cormier said, “He pushed me and I told Brock in the Octagon. I said ‘listen, Brock, you get this one but when they close that Octagon door, I’m gonna put you to sleep.’ He’ll pay for it.”
Cormier is a big wrestling fan and knows everything about Lesnar’s career. He said, “I’ve been following Brock since 1999. When he wrestled for the heavyweight championship I wrestled for the light heavyweight championship. This is a story that has been writing itself for 20 years.”
Kelley asked Cormier if we might see him at a future WWE live event. “Oh, I love it. I go all the time,” he said. “At Elimination Chamber, me and Cain Velasquez and the rest of us we wore Lucha Libre masks in Las Vegas and we were going insane. It was the most amazing time.”
It would be interesting if some sort of deal was worked out between WWE and UFC to allow some cross promotion on WWE programming to hype the fight. Lesnar still needs to serve out the rest of his USADA drug suspension so he will not be eligible to fight again until January. He is scheduled to defend the Universal Championship next month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
