John Cena appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Thursday to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE. Coachman asked him about being a 16-time world champion. Cena stated that he is proud of still being able to do this after 16 championships and that he always said that his greatest match is his next. He noted that the accolade just means that he’s been able to do this for a long time and that it’s no secret that this is what he loves to do and that he is far from retirement. He noted that he feels that he’s at his physical best right now.
When asked about what WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair said to him backstage at the Royal Rumble, he stated that he was very congratulatory. He brought up sharing a special moment ith Charles Robinson in the ring after the match and then had a heartfelt moment with Flair backstage.
Coachman brought up AJ Styles and asked how Styles has brought the tremendous in-ring chemistry out of him. He noted that it’s no secret that he is getting older but with people saying that he is past his prime or he has lost his step causes him to have a giant chip on his shoulder when he is wrestling. He noted that he just wants to show everyone that he’s at his best. He praised Styles and says that he told Styles after the match that he was sorry and wrong for how he viewed Styles going into the match. He thinks Styles is one of if not the best wrestler in WWE that steps into the ring every night.
When asked about Sunday’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and competing in a match like that. He hyped up the chamber match as well as the WWE Network then plugged WrestleMania 33, which led to Coachman asking him what WrestleMania means to him. He noted that every WrestleMania is the most important day for every WWE star. He noted that if all goes well this Sunday then he’ll be headed to WrestleMania and that’s truly like a quarterback making it to the Superbowl.
