John Cena made his big return to WWE SmackDown Live during this week’s episode of the blue brand that was taped last Saturday night in Pittsburgh, PA at the PPG Paints Arena.
He had an in-ring segment that saw former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch interrupt him and talked about how things have changed as she is now the man of the company. They would go onto beat Zelina Vega and Andrade Almas in a mixed tag team match.
WWE’s YouTube channel released this exclusive interview where Cena talked about Lynch’s attitude as of late and their match on SmackDown Live.
“She believes that she’s The Man. It’s not a character. It’s Becky Lynch,” said Cena “That’s something that I can relate to. When I stand tall in a WWE ring, people know they get the best of me. When Becky Lynch came out there, and not only staked her claim, but said ‘Listen, if I have to go through you to get it, I’ll get it done.’ I looked into her eyes and I know she meant it. That’s very rare. I hope the other WWE Superstars, regardless of gender, are paying attention to the attitude of Becky Lynch. Sometimes, you gotta announce your presence with authority.”
Cena continued, “I know how tough it is to be overlooked. I know how tough it is to try to do your best every night and not get noticed. Finally, for something to happen inside of you to feel comfortable and confident. When you get that confidence, you feel like Superman. When I go out there, I tell everybody that this is the Superman outfit. It’s good to see someone step up and come eyeball-to-eyeball with me and be like, ‘Hey, if this is what we gotta do, we gotta do it.’ I was honored to be on her team tonight because that’s not an attitude I’ve seen in the ring for a long time.”
