WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE. Coachman asked him about facing Goldberg at Fastlane. Owens said that he doesn’t think Goldberg is ready for this match. He brought up that Goldberg is limited and has been his entire career. He hits a spear, the jackhammer and that’s it. He noted that he has been in WWE for two years and only has scratched the surface.
When asked about Goldberg not having a full length match since his return in November, Owens questioned if Goldberg has ever had a full length match in his career. He said that Goldberg has always ended things quickly but the longer it goes it favors his opponents. He noted that he has done it all in pro wrestling and has beaten everyone. He dreamed about being WWE Champion and that there’s nothing he won’t do to keep the title.
When asked if Goldberg has earned his spot and the match at Fastlane, Owens doesn’t think he earned nor does he think he was handed anything. He noted that it makes sense for Goldberg to be in the main event of Fastlane. He said that even if Brock Lesnar beat Goldberg at Survivor Series then Goldberg would still have received a title match because of his name. He said that he has earned everything he has in WWE. He said that he has accomplished more in two years than most Superstars.
Coachman asked him about the reaction from other Superstars to Goldberg’s success in his latest WWE stint, Owens said that he doesn’t talk to the other guys about this stuff. He brought up going to Germany recently and putting on great matches while Goldberg is timing down the days remaining to Fastlane. He said that he responded to Goldberg’s tweet and brought up that he was wrestling overseas while Goldberg was home. He said that Goldberg’s passion for pro wrestling is nothing compared to his passion.
Coachman asked him about the Festival of Friendship segment on RAW a few week’s back, Owens said that it was a special night and that the built throughout the segment that ultimately led to him turning on Chris Jericho. He said that it had to happen and that Jericho should’ve seen it coming. He promised to main event WrestleMania.
When asked about his chemistry with Jericho, He said that the chemistry between them was undeniable. He said that is why he thinks that they had so many great moments. He said that great friends make better enemies.
Owens thanked ESPN for having him on the show and this wrapped up the segment.
