WATCH: Paul Heyman on Brock Lesnar, Goldberg’s WWE return, Vince McMahon

Paul Heyman appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE. RAW and SmackDown Live highlights were shown before Coachman introduced Heyman.

When asked where Heyman is right now in his career, he said that he is approaching his prime and riding Brock Lesnar’s coattails to the finish line.

Coachman asked if he hesitated being paired with Lesnar in 2002, Heyman explained that it was an opportunity of a lifetime for him to work with Lesnar as he is a NCAA wrestling champion and a once ever athlete. Heyman listed Lesnar as being a NCAA Champion, UFC Champion, and the WWE Champion. Heyman said that being WWE Champion comes with a lot of pressure.

When asked how Lesnar has changed since making his WWE debut to where he is now, Heyman explained that he is a smarter monster with a wife and kids. Heyman said that Lesnar is the single biggest box office attraction that is out there. Heyman stated the UFC doesn’t have that kind of athlete right now.

Coachman asked about Goldberg appearing on RAW and what led to him being back in WWE, Heyman said that it would be must see TV from now on. Heyman asked if they were supposed to shoot on here and Coachman said yes. Heyman said that Lesnar doesn’t like the fact that he lost to Goldberg (at WrestleMania 20 in 2004). Heyman explained that it bothers Lesnar because he is a type of guy who doesn’t like someone getting a win over him. Heyman explained that he does the virtual marketing behind WWE games and when asked who should be the pre-order character for WWE 2K17, Heyman asked Lesnar, and Lesnar suggested Goldberg. Heyman said that when former WWE stars are featured in the game, they come back to WWE. Heyman listed The Ultimate Warrior and Sting. Heyman said that with that decision to have Goldberg in the game, Goldberg had to talk to WWE. Heyman said that they had manipulated the system since day one so Lesnar could face Goldberg again. Heyman explained that 2016 is the year of revenge for Lesnar. Lesnar went back to the UFC and won against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July after beating diverticulitis. Lesnar takes pleasure in beating The Rock as a rookie to become WWE Champion. Heyman brought up Lesnar beating John Cena for the WWE Title at SummerSlam a few years ago. Heyman said that loss to Goldberg really does get under Lesnar’s skin.

When asked what fans can expect to see between Lesnar and Goldberg, Heyman thinks it will be a genuine Lesnar looking to even the score. Heyman thinks we will see the persona of Lesnar toned down just like he did in the UFC. Heyman said when Goldberg did the ESPN interview he had to ask about one more match and Goldberg said, Lesnar. Heyman said that the match had to be made.

Finally, Coachman asked him what it is like to be the boss of ECW and then going to work for Vince McMahon, Heyman said that it was a miserable experience that has probably cost him millions of dollars because he was a god in ECW. Heyman said that once you go from being a god to dealing with another god it can be a headache. Heyman said that Vince likes to do things his way and when you are used to having final say, it is difficult. Heyman explained that he is now the god of the Heyman Hustle so working for another god (Vince) is not that hard anymore because he is still a god of another company.

Heyman thanked ESPN for having him on the show, and this wrapped up the segment.
