Tommaso Ciampa had to relinquish the WWE NXT Title after undergoing neck surgery last month. The YouTube channel of the WWE Performance Center shared part one of a video of Ciampa documenting his neck injury.
The video starts out with Triple H giving an emotional speech to the NXT roster about how dreams can come true but also be put on hold. He would later introduce Ciampa to the roster. The video would cut to Ciampa detailing the things that led up to getting the neck surgery.
Ciampa brought up how he was getting a lot of stingers while competing, and he was having trouble with opening two of his fingers, and when he did, they became shaky. Ciampa would later add that the spinal column in his neck was in jeopardy and that’s when they made the call to get the surgery done. One more hit or bad bump could’ve been it for him.
Ciampa was expected to make his next title defense against Johnny Gargano at the NXT TakeOver: New York event but those plans were scrapped, and WWE had to make a change to the main event.
