As we’ve reported, this week’s episode of SmackDown Live featured a title change. On the Christmas Eve episode of SDL, Rusev defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to become the new United States Champion. The pair battled it out in the main event of the evening, and Rusev emerged victorious to become a three-time WWE United States Champion. WWE recently took to their YouTube page to share some footage of what happened after the program went off-air.
Rusev got close to the camera and dedicated the victory to his mother, who spent hours giving birth to him 33 years ago on Christmas Day. The Bulgarian said “Thank you momma” before giving a kiss to the camera and walking back up the ramp with his wife, Lana:
Rusev then took to Twitter to wish fans a Merry Christmas, and called it the “best day ever,” in reference to his United States Title victory:
“Merry Christmas Happy RusevDay and thank you for the birthday wishes. Best day ever.”

As many of you may know, Rusev’s title victory actually took place last week, as this week’s episodes of Raw and SmackDown Live were pre-taped. This was so WWE Superstars would be able to enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with their families this week. WWE is back on the road today with a big house show from Madison Square Garden in New York City tonight.
