We previously reported that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was training at the WWE Performance Center earlier this month.
Velasquez became known to the professional wrestling community when he defeated Brock Lesnar via first round knockout back in 2010 at UFC 121. He took away the UFC heavyweight title from “The Beast.” While Velasquez visited the Performance Center he ran wrestling drills with coach Norman Smiley. He also did a DDP Yoga Class led by Hall Of Famer Diamond Dallas Page, worked out in the Performance Center weight room and attended an NXT TV taping at Full Sail University.
He had this to say about the experience:
“My experience has been amazing,” Velasquez said. “I’m just looking forward to being here and learning as much as I can. I’ve been a fan of the sport since I was a little kid, and now I get to participate in it.”
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer discussed Velasquez’s Performance Center visit recently. He revealed Velasquez is currently in contract negotiations with the UFC. The former heavyweight king wants the UFC to know that he has other options outside of MMA. It should be interesting to see what Velasquez would do if he’s unable to come to terms with a contract extensions with the UFC once his deal expires.
