If you are wondering why they had Sami Zayn go over on Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw for a spot in the Royal Rumble, then you will get an answer on Sunday because it’s expected that they will be doing an angle between Rollins and Triple H.
The idea is that Rollins would be getting revenge on Triple H for costing him his slot in the Rumble. This would be Triple H’s big return since his departure from main WWE programming in September. Unless something changes, Rollins will not be an official participant in the show so it would make sense for Triple H to come out as a surprise entrant and then for Rollins to run down and eliminate him.
The Rollins vs. Triple H match is something they’ve had planned for a long time. They wanted to do it last year but injuries to Rollins and other top stars caused them to reshuffle the lineup.
WWE is also teasing that something could go down between Dolph Ziggler and Jerry Lawler at the show. Lawler will be on commentary during the Royal Rumble match (and the pre-show) so they could always book him to eliminate Ziggler without actually competing in the match. I doubt they’d have Lawler do anything too physical at his age, even though he still wrestles independent matches.
