Curtis Lee Gibson was used as an enhancement talent at Wednesday night’s NXT tapings and it might be his last time ever in a WWE ring. On Sunday,
The 32-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery in July after he allegedly held a knife to his girlfriend’s neck during a violent encounter at the couple’s home. They have been together for 4 years and have 4 children together as well.
According to the police affidavit obtained by the Lakeland Florida’s Ledger, the incident escalated from a verbal disagreement and soon got very ugly as he reportedly twisted his girlfriend’s arm around her back to restrain her and when she grabbed a coathanger with the intention of using it to assist in her struggle, he continued by punching her.
She eventually got ahold of a pair of nail clippers so he grabbed a pocketknife and held it to her throat after pushing her onto the bed. She pleaded for him to let her up and he finally gave in but the incident apparently continued for a short while longer before police were called. “I should stick you right now,” he reportedly said, and, “Do you know what I can do to you right now?”
Gibson is a maintenance worker at Polk County schools and was elected to the city’s governing board in April where he took office in May.
He wasn’t under WWE contract so it’s likely they didn’t use the same vetting process like they do with full-time talent. But this is an unfortunate situation indeed as his past offenses likely slipped through the cracks and he was used at the TV tapings. Gibson has pleaded not guilty and his charges are still pending in Circuit Court.
Last August, Gibson issued the following statement to the media: “Mr. Mayor, commissioners, city staff and people of Lake Wales. I am very sorry that my personal life has come under public scrutiny. On the advice of my attorney, I can’t discuss the specifics of Sunday’s incident except to say the allegations against me are false and we will mount a zealous defense. I ask that you not pre-judge me and remember I am innocent until proven guilty. I fully expect to be exonerated of all charges.”
