WWE abandons trademark filing for event name used by GCW

Last December, WWE tried to acquire the rights to the term “The Collective” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

GCW later filed for the trademark a few days later as if WWE got the rights then Game Changer Wrestling couldn’t use it.

GCW has held a series of The Collective events throughout the past few years. In their trademark filing, the promotion noted that its first use was in September 2018.

WWE decided to abandon the trademark filing on June 4th.

As a result, GCW is likely to be granted the trademark rights to the term and continue to use it as it had been.
