On WWE Backstage, it was officially announced that former Intercontinental Champion John Morrison has indeed signed a contract with the company.
The news of Morrison’s signing first broke via PWInsider in late September but Morrison attempted to kill the story on Twitter. Wrestlers are always told to keep their signing a secret until the company makes their announcement. I know there were rumblings last week during Survivor Series weekend about Morrison’s return being imminent.
Morrison, real name John Hennigan, signed with WWE for the first time in 2002 after he won Tough Enough III alongside Matt Cappotelli.
He eventually debuted on Monday Night Raw as Johnny Nitro, a play off the WCW Monday Nitro name since Eric Bischoff played the General Manager role at the time. He went on to form MNM with Joey Mercury and towards his final years with the company, he teamed with The Miz and won the Intercontinental Championship before he decided to leave the company in 2011.
Morrison is a 3-time IC Champion, a former ECW Champion, a former World Tag Team Champions, and a 4-time WWE Tag Team Champion. As recently as a few months ago, he was working for Impact Wrestling.
