TNA continues to exist thanks to funding from an unknown source just days before they went on the air on Sunday with their biggest pay-per-view of the year. The company still needs funds to continue but, thanks to their marathon TV tapings this week, they will be caught up through the end of this year. The question is where will they get the next influx of cash to continue on in 2017? That answer might be WWE, according to Jim Ross’ sources.
On this week’s episode of The Ross Report podcast, Ross said that his sources are telling him that WWE is in talks to buy TNA’s tape library but not the promotion. If that is the case then TNA would get a significant amount of money and the TNA library would end up on the WWE Network. Ross said that the deal for the tape library is imminent and that this is the rumor he’s heard and it’s a wait and see situation but the people that told him about these talks are generally very reliable.
If this deal goes through then I can’t see how the name “TNA” could continue to exist. Billy Corgan has talked about wanting to change the name of the company if Dixie Carter sold it to him. Perhaps Carter would do the same if she remains as the majority owner. I guess we’ll find out soon enough if the deal with WWE for the tape library goes through.
