If you watched WWE Raw this week, you may have noticed that Brock Lesnar’s name was mentioned on the show.
Before the main event, Drew McIntyre mentioned that he beat Brock Lesnar but Kofi Kingston was not able to. Bobby Lashley chimed in by asking “why are we talking about somebody who doesn’t even work here?”
If you have been watching WWE for a while, then you know that Vince McMahon rarely will mention someone who is not currently working for the company, especially a big name like Lesnar.
This was discussed by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live:
“When I heard that I thought that they are building toward Lashley vs Lesnar. That is a match that they have not done. It is a match that people have been asking for a long time and maybe that’s their plan for SummerSlam. Maybe that is their plan for WrestleMania, etc.”
The Lesnar references appear to be hints being given to fans that Lesnar is on his way back and it looks like he may be involved with Lashley and/or McIntyre. It’s worth noting that Lashley has been pushing for a match with Lesnar for years.
WWE is returning to the road next month starting with the July 16th episode of Friday Night SmackDown and they are looking at running SummerSlam on August 21st in a football stadium. There are reports of a major match being lined up on the SmackDown side but no hints yet of what the big Raw match will be. Lesnar’s return in front of fans makes sense since WWE is looking to fill somewhere around 60,000 fans if the plan is to do the show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Lesnar has not been seen on WWE TV since he lost the Universal Title to McIntyre at WrestleMania 35.
