Asuka put her Raw Women’s Championship against Nia Jax at the WWE Backlash pay-per-view at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
Asuka hit some strikes and then she tried an armbar but Jax was able to counter. Asuka locked in an octopus submission but Jax powered out of it. Jax hit a clothesline and then a body block when she tossed Asuka off the ropes. Jax also hit a spinebuster before attempting a pin but Asuka was able to kick out. Jax also hit a modified version of the jackhammer but Asuka was able to kick out of the pin attempt.
Asuka got fired up and made a comeback when Jax mentioned Kairi Sane’s name. Jax was able to fight her way back with a powerbomb and a pin attempt. Jax charged and missed and crashed into the corner and that was the opening Asuka needed to get back on offense. Asuka went to the top rope but Jax caught her but Asuka countered into an armbar and then dragged her over the top rope and to the ringside area. Asuka then locked in the armbar at ringside but Jax broke free. The referee counted both women out at ringside because they couldn’t get into the ring on time.
