WWE recently filed for the trademark “King of the Ring,” which has sparked speculation that the company would be bringing back the tournament.
King of the Ring used to be an annual event from 1985 – 2002. Don Muraco won the first King of the Ring tournament.
WWE brought back the tournament in 2006 for the SmackDown brand and in 2008 and 2010 for the RAW brand. Last year, WWE used the tournament as a WWE Network exclusive event that was won by King Barrett.
