Cody Rhodes, 39, has revised his previously stated retirement plans. During a recent appearance on the 2 “Bears 1 Cave” podcast, Rhodes told hosts Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura that he now intends to wrestle full-time until the age of 45, extending his initial goal of retiring at 40. “I don’t want to wrestle full-time definitely past 45,” Rhodes clarified. “I’ll drop in for sure, keep myself in shape.”
While open to future acting roles – stating, “I’d absolutely love to do it” – Rhodes emphasized his current focus on his role in WWE. “Winning the championship for WWE is essentially like being the quarterback of the team,” he noted. He described his recent experience as “the most fun and rewarding time I’ve ever had in my career.”
Rhodes also highlighted his enjoyment in mentoring up-and-coming talent like Carmelo Hayes. “Being able to see him hear things, hear an audience, and this is why that didn’t work, this is why it did work—I’d love to do at this level up until probably 45,” he said. Rhodes and Hayes have faced off in several dark matches and on SmackDown.
Rhodes’ next title defense is scheduled for the Royal Rumble, where he will face Kevin Owens in a ladder match with both the WWE Undisputed Championship and the Winged Eagle belt on the line. The match was announced on Friday’s edition of SmackDown.
