The long-rumored match between Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik Mysterio, is reportedly not planned for the upcoming WWE Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event. This is a significant change, as the match was expected to take place in the Mysterios’ hometown of San Diego, California.
Report On Scrapped Match
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the match is no longer in the company’s plans for the November 29 event. “Rey and Dominik are not wrestling in San Diego, so I did find that out too,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know what that means. I don’t know if that means Cena and Dom is still on or they’re going in a different direction to where they were going, because the Cena and Dom title change was going to be in San Diego originally, not in Boston.”
The Original Plans
The report that the match is off comes after weeks of speculation. It was previously reported that Rey Mysterio was scheduled to compete against Dominik Mysterio at Petco Park in San Diego for the AAA Mega Championship. This change appears to be a ripple effect from another major shift in plans.
The original plan was reportedly for John Cena to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. However, that match was moved up to the November 10 episode of Raw in Boston. On that show, John Cena defeated Dominik to win the Intercontinental Title for the first time, becoming a Grand Slam Champion. With Dominik no longer holding the IC title, the stakes for a Survivor Series match against his father have changed.
The Survivor Series: WarGames card is now focused on the WarGames matches. The announced matches are a Men’s WarGames match featuring Team CM Punk (CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, and 2 TBA) vs. The Vision (Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed), Logan Paul, and 2 TBA, and a Women’s WarGames match. While Rey and Dominik are not scheduled to wrestle each other, they are still advertised to appear at the event.
