WWE has confirmed the news that broke earlier today on Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
Tommaso Ciampa went under medical evaluation today and he is scheduled for an anterior cervical fusion.
As is the case with most neck surgeries, he will need to take several months off and this could mean we won’t see him back on WWE television until the end of the year or early 2020.
It was clear at the recent NXT TV tapings that the plan for NXT TakeOver: New York was Ciampa defending the NXT Championship against Johnny Gargano. WWE will need to figure out a new main event for that show and they will need to crown a new champion. At this time, there is no word on what the new plans are.
