WWE is looking at SummerSlam as its next big pay-per-view event for a few different reasons.
It’s considered to be among WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series as the big four PPV events each year, but also because WWE is expecting to have fans in attendance for SummerSlam.
The belief for the past few months has been WWE will resume touring after SummerSlam with fans attending TV and PPV events going forward. The hope is the majority country will be vaccinated by then.
Just like with everything that has gone on during the COVID-19 pandemic, things are subject to change.
Historically, WWE will hold SummerSlam in the middle to late August. WrestleVotes reported today that having fans in attendance for this show is still on track, but also pointed out how WWE has 3 to 4 locations in mind for the show and it could be held earlier than usual.
WWE is looking to have SummerSlam be the official kickoff as a “return to touring.” With that said, if things work out a certain way, the PPV might be even earlier than usual this year. I’ve heard 3 to 4 locations are on the table, with 1 having better odds than the others 😉
