WWE Day 1 main event went shorter than planned, backstage reaction to Big E’s title reign ending

With the original WWE Day 1 main event being nixed, it caused WWE to make a lot of smaller changes to the rest of the show.  WWE added Brock Lesnar into the WWE Championship match that made it be a fatal 5-way with Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley after Lesnar’s match with Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who tested positive for COVID-19, was pulled.

Fightful Select reports the match times were adjusted and segments were added to help out on the time they lost with the main event being nixed. Talent was told the main event was off mid-afternoon.

WWE never told talent who was originally supposed to win the fatal 4-way bout, but those in the company believed Big E was supposed to retain, although that’s not confirmed. The fatal 5-way match was set to go for 30 minutes but ended up lasting just over 8 minutes.

As far as how those in the company reacted to Lesnar winning the WWE Title, most felt that Big E wasn’t booked consistently throughout his title reign and those involved with his ongoing storyline would go “above and beyond” to make sense of the things booked on the screen to the best of their ability.
