WWE appears poised to introduce a visual overhaul for its upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event special. According to a report from Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, the company is planning to update the presentation of the show, moving away from the retro 1980s aesthetic that defined its return earlier this year.
When the classic brand was revived, it featured a heavy dose of nostalgia, paying homage to the original NBC specials with period-specific graphics and music. However, the report indicates that WWE has been discussing a shift in this direction since August, looking to modernize the feel of the event.
It remains unclear if this updated look will be the new standard for the series or a specific creative choice for the December 13 special, which is headlined by John Cena’s retirement match. The report notes that advertising for the subsequent Saturday Night’s Main Event show in Montreal still features the retro branding, suggesting the change could be temporary or that marketing materials have yet to be updated.
