With WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Liv Morgan sidelined with a significant shoulder injury, the expectation within WWE is that former NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez will step in to team with Raquel Rodriguez, according to a new report from PWInsider.com. This move would see Perez become a champion immediately upon her official main roster debut.
Morgan suffered a separated shoulder on the June 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, an injury that will require surgery and is expected to keep her out of action for up to six months. The injury forced WWE to scrap major creative plans for the upcoming Evolution 2 premium live event, which reportedly included Morgan and Rodriguez defending their titles against a returning Bella Twins.
The new report indicates WWE’s plan to address the title situation is not to vacate the championships, but to substitute an active superstar for the injured Morgan. Roxanne Perez is the name expected to fill that role, instantly placing her in a high-profile position on the main roster alongside the powerhouse Raquel Rodriguez.
Perez is one of WWE’s most promising young stars. She is a former NXT Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. She is currently in the semi-finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament, where she is scheduled to face Jade Cargill on next week’s episode of Raw.
This is not the first time WWE has replaced an injured tag team champion without vacating the titles. The company has set a precedent for this in the past to allow storylines to continue and to keep the championships active on television.
