WWE was planning to hold upcoming TV events with fans in attendance. However, those plans have been halted.
Last week it was reported that WWE had contacted a company about local people attending TV tapings that would take place at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida, which seats 8,000, on Friday, July 24, and Monday, July 27.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that several people within WWE were notified that the planned shows with audiences had been delayed. No further details were provided. Dave Meltzer later confirmed the news on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Although there’s no word yet on exactly why WWE delayed these plans, it’s likely to do with the spike in numbers of people testing positive for the coronavirus especially in Florida.
The idea to hold events with fans again would be for fans to practice social distancing so there would be a limited amount of people in attendance in order to comply with the allowed capacity.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wants to be the first person to hold a live indoor sports event with fans again.
