WWE says SmackDown in Detroit is still scheduled, contingency plans in place if city cancels the show

WWE has issued a statement denying that SmackDown in Detroit has been canceled.

Here is the WWE statement:

“WWE has not cancelled Friday Night SmackDown in Detroit, however, based on the current situation, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that upcoming WWE shows are cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues.”

This statement from WWE comes after an email was leaked earlier from someone in the company regarding moving SmackDown to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. The word coming from people in the company was that an official announcement from WWE would be coming regarding the cancellation in Detroit and move to Orlando. Obviously, the statement above contradicts that but things can change in a short time if the city of Detroit decides to shut down all sporting and entertainment events.

We’ll pass along updates as we get them.
