WWE discussed an interesting idea for The New Day that was turned down

It’s been well documented that injuries suffered by Xavier Woods and most recently Kofi Kingston led to the decision being made that Big E would get a singles push.

Woods has been on the sidelines for months. On the flip side, Kingston suffered an injury while working a tag team tables match at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. The singles run for the former NXT Champion started in July.

WrestleVotes reported on Thursday that there was an idea involving the group where Kingston would be sent to Raw while Big E would remain on SmackDown. While on separate brands, they would have singles runs while keeping elements of the faction. Woods would serve as the manager for both stars.

However, the idea that had been discussed was turned down. Here’s the report:

“Interesting idea that was discussed but turned down: Kofi Kingston would return to RAW, while Big E stays on SmackDown. Both remain part of New Day, including gear & music. Just on separate brands. Another twist: Xavier Woods would serve as a manager type appearing on both shows.”
