There was a brief note on Roman Reigns in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer says that the situation with Reigns is unknown after he made the decision to pull himself off of WrestleMania. Reigns did not appear this week on Friday Night SmackDown and they have already started in the direction of Bray Wyatt being the first challenger for Braun Strowman’s Universal Championship.
Meltzer was told that it is essentially up to Reigns on when he wants to return and nobody seems to know when that will happen.
During his interview on the CarCast podcast, Goldberg questioned WWE’s thinking on wanting to have Reigns, who is immunocompromised, wrestle at WrestleMania. Goldberg said, “I don’t know why it was even considered in the beginning besides he’d invested the time and WWE invested the money in the match. Literally, until the 23rd hour, it was still a possibility that he and I were going to wrestle.”
The story on why Reigns pulled out of the show is that The Miz was sick and The Usos found out and were upset at him for being there. Word got back to Reigns and then he decided to go home.
The wrestlers I spoke to all agree that Reigns pulling out of the show was the right decision and one person who is friends with Reigns told me that he probably won’t be back for at least a few months. There is no word on how Vince McMahon feels about Reigns’ decision but it is interesting that the announcers were told not to mention Reigns during the WrestleMania commentary.
