If you search around the internet for long enough you’re bound to find a lot of things you don’t agree with and plenty of people are speaking their mind blindly into a vacuum of cyberspace. But it turns out one Twitter account recently caused WWE to terminate one of their executives.
The Huffington Post was investigating a story which they later ran about a right-wing Twitter account ran by Amy Mekelburg who is the 45-year-old wife of now ex-WWE executive Sal Siino.
This Twitter account had a rather complicated story behind it actually. The account has over 200,000 followers including Rosanne Barr, Sean Hannity, and the personal account of Sarah Huckabee Sanders has endorsements from Donald Trump and Michael Flynn. The account would send out around 25 tweets a day usually directed at Muslims using hateful rhetoric. It would share propaganda of all kinds such as memes about child rape, genital mutilation, and executions.
Siino was the Senior Vice President, Global Content Distribution & Business Development for World Wrestling Entertainment and it was not a good look at all for the company because his wife tweeted some incredibly insensitive things using her online influence.
When WWE was asked by the Huffington Post if they knew one of their Senior Vice Presidents’ wife had a Twitter account like that a company spokesperson responded: “Now that it has come to our attention, Sal Siino is no longer an employee.”
Mekelburg has declined to comment on the story when HuffPost reached out to her but she is claiming that their story is endangering her and her family.
