WWE Kickoff Match
Bad News Barrett vs. Neville
Barrett cut a promo before the match taking credit for Daniel Bryan not being in Chicago. He said that Bryan is terrified of losing his title to him. They actually took a commercial break to promote some of their new WWE Network programming. I guess they just couldn’t wait until the match was over. Good, fast paced match. Neville got the win after hitting the red arrow.
Tom Philips interviewed Kane backstage. The questions were from twitter.
Extreme Rules pay-per-view
Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper (Chicago Street Fight)
They started brawling right away just before Harper got into the ring. A chair and a kendo stick was used early in the match. They end up making their way backstage in the production area. Harper jumps in a limo and tries to drive off. Ambrose jumps in through the window and Harper drives off with Ambrose hanging off the window. The announcers are puzzled. Cole reminds us that it’s a street fight and there are no DQs and no count outs. Fans are not happy and they are chanting for CM Punk. I guess the match is not officially over.
Anyway, they go backstage to Triple H and Kane. Triple H tells Kane to track down Harper and Ambrose. Rollins shows up and he and Kane start to argue while Triple H calms them down. Triple H agrees with Seth about Kane letting some things fall between the cracks recently and he doesn’t want to regret letting Kane be the gatekeeper. Kane assures both of them that he will do what is best for business.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus (Kiss Me Arse match)
Ziggler started out on offense, they fought outside of the ring briefly but things settled down with Sheamus in control for a couple of minutes. Ziggler hit a flurry of moves and wasn’t able to get Sheamus knocked off his feet. Sheamus hits Ziggler in the jaw with a forearm and takes control of the match. Sheamus locks in the clover leaf submission but Ziggler fights out of it. A couple of minutes later Ziggler gets a near fall after getting out of the way of a brogue kick. Dolph got the surprise pin just seconds later. Dolph wins. Sheamus is protesting because he says it was not a three count but the ref disagrees. Sheamus tries to leave but the ref tells him he needs to get back in the ring. Sheamus went to kiss his ass but low blowed him instead and hit the brogue kick. Sheamus then forced Ziggler to kiss his ass. Sheamus then cut a promo ripping on the crowd in Chicago.
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro vs. The New Day (WWE Tag Team Championship)
Chicago loves Tyson and Cesaro. Xavier Woods and Natalya are at ringside. Big E and Cesaro start the match. There was an impressive spot where Cesaro caught Big E in mid-air and slammed him. Loud “New Day Sucks.” Chicago crowd has been hot all night so far. Really good match. At one point Tyson had the sharpshooter locked in on Kofi but Big E picked up Tyson and threw him. Cesaro tagged in and did the giant swing on Kofi and went for the cover but Xavier distracted the ref. Natalya slaps Xavier. Kofi rolls up Cesaro for the win.
Renee interviewed The New Day backstage. Ambrose and Harper are back and Ambrose was driving. Ambrose stops the car and dives on Harper from the top of the car. They make their way back to the arena so the street fight continues. They throw tons of chairs into the ring. Ambrose slams Harper off the top onto a pile of chairs and hits dirty deeds. Ambrose gets the pin. Ambrose wins.
John Cena (champion) vs. Rusev (United States Championship – Russian Chain Match)
Both men have the chain tied to their wrists. Winner must tag all four corners in succession. Lana is at ringside. They have a green light in each corner for Cena that lights up when he touches each corner and a red light for Rusev. Each man tried to touch all four corners at different times early in the match but it was broken up. There was a spot where Rusev went to the top rope but Cena yanked him off. Fans chanted for Lana so Lana got up on the apron and waved at the fans. Fans cheered but Rusev did not like it so he told her to leave. Lana is no longer at ringside. Cena locks in the STF and Rusev reaches for the ropes but it doesn’t matter because there are no DQs in this match. Cena would end up with Rusev on his back and fell into 2 corners but Rusev was being credited as touching the corners. Cena was able to break it up before Rusev touched the fourth corner. Both men touched corners at the same time so it’s 3 to 3. Rusev charges the corner but Cena pulls him and hits the AA and touches the corner. Cena retains. The American flag hangs over the ring as Cena celebrates.
Backstage, Renee interviews Roman Reigns.
Nikki Bella vs. Naomi (WWE Divas Championship)
Naomi has new music, new gear, and some crazy looking glasses. Brie is at ringside and is trying to get the fans to cheer for Nikki so they are full-blown babyfaces now without explanation. They didn’t get much time. This went about 6 minutes. The finish came after Brie kicked Naomi in the face and Nikki hit the rack attack.
Rusev yells at Lana backstage. He yells at her to go knock on a door. It’s The Authority’s office and she walks in.
Roman Reigns vs. Big Show (Last Man Standing Match)
Roman tried to bring a table into the match but Show attacked and put the table back under the ring. Roman fights back, hits the running kick on the ring apron, and goes back to get the table. Roman sets up the table at ringside. Show catches up to Reigns and throws him into the barricade. Show smashes the table in half. So they are building up to a spot where Roman brings a table in later so the fans can cheer. Roman gets a kendo stick and hits Show with it. Referee counts but Roman gets up. SHow has the kendo stick and tosses Roman in the ring and breaks the stick in half instead of using it. Fans don’t like it. Reigns fights back and goes out to ringside and brings in 2 tables. A chair is in the ring too. Big Show KO’s Reigns. The referee counts but Reigns gets up at 8. Show goes for a chokeslam but Reigns reverses into a Samoan drop through the table. Referee counts, Reigns is up, and Big Show rolls to the outside so the referee has to stop counting. Back in the ring Reigns goes for a spear but Show moves and spears Roman. Ref counts, Roman gets up. Show went up to the top but Roman caught up to him and caused Show to fall on top of the turnbuckle. Roman gets another table and sets it up at ringside. He gets yet another table and sets it up next to the first table. Roman gets up and tries to superplex Show but Show shoves him off. Show gets up on the top rope but Roman catches him and slams him into the ring. Reigns hits a couple of Superman punches and goes for another but Show grabs him by the throat, picks him up, and drops him through the tables at ringside. Reigns barely gets up at 9. Show sets up the steel steps next to the announcers table and starts clearing off the announcers table as the announcers walk off. Show read a note on the announcers table that said “Big Show needs to lose weight.” Fans chanted for JBL. Show gets back in the ring and charges at Reigns but Reigns moves and Show crashes through a table that was set up in the corner of the ring. Reigns spears Big Show. The referee counts but Show is able to roll out of the ring just before the 10 count. Reigns runs after Show and spears him through the barricade next to where the steps are set up at ringside by the announcers table. Both men are down as the ref counts but they both get up before the 10 count. Roman gets up on the announcers table, Show grabs him by the neck but Roman fights back. Show shoves Roman off the announcers table. Roman charges and spears Big Show through the spanish announcers table. Both men are down but Roman is able to get up quickly. Big Show barely makes it up before 10 so Roman lifts up the American announce table and dumps it on Big Show and “buries” him under it. The announcers say he’s trapped. Anyway, Show is counted out and Roman Reigns wins. Cole says Roman Reigns has arrived tonight.
Kane is backstage and runs into Randy Orton. Orton says that he and Kane have fought side by side and faced each over for many years but Kane traded his mask for a suit but he understands and Kane knows when The Authority is done using him for their purpose then they will throw him out like garbage. Orton says he knows who Kane is even if he’s forgotten.
They showed some Tough Enough entries.
Bo Dallas comes out and cuts a promo ripping on the city of Chicago. Ryback interrupts and shell shocks Bo Dallas. Just me guessing here but it certainly makes sense if the plan is to pair Bo up with his brother.
Byron Saxton interviews Rusev. Lana tells that the final chapter of Rusev vs. Cena will be at Payback. It will be an “I Quit” match.
Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton (WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Kane is the gatekeeper)
JBL says that Seth has been dealing with leg cramps and is moving slower than usual. There were a couple of attempts from Rollins to escape but Randy would catch up with him. About 10 minutes into the match they fought on top of the cage. Rollins dove onto Orton from the top rope but Orton caught him with a powerslam. Orton goes for the draping DDT but Rollins turns it around, hits a kick to the face, then goes for a pin attempt. 2 count. Rollins tries to escape but Orton grabs Rollins by the hair and pulls him into the ring. J&J Security show up at ringside. Orton superplexes Rollins off the top rope. Cole says it was from the top of the cage but not really. Kane refuses to open the cage for J&J. Orton finally hits the draping DDT from the top rope as Cole says “vintage Orton.” Orton sets up for the RKO but kicks Rollins in the gut and then hits the pedigree instead. Pin attempt…2 count. Orton goes for the punt but Rollins gets out of the way. Rollins takes out Orton and yells at Kane to open the door. Rollins is close to leaving the cage but Orton grabs him and hits the backbreaker. Orton tries to leave the cage but Kane shuts the door on him. Rollins tries to dropkick Orton but Orton moves and Seth hits the cage and Kane gets knocked off. Kane gets back up and slams the cage on Orton and Seth so the question is whether he meant to do that to Seth or Randy. Kane gets in the ring and double chokeslams J&J Security. Kane is about to go after Seth but grabs Orton instead and chokeslams him. Rollins tries to leave but Kane grabs him and chokeslams him too. Kane puts Rollins arm over Orton and the ref counts but Orton kicks out. Kane goes for the tombstone but Orton RKO’s Kane. Rollins RKO’s Orton. Rollins escapes and he wins the match. The announcers are confused because Rollins used the RKO and the move was banned. I guess they will dispute this on Raw and they’ll set up the rematch for Payback.
