WWE Extreme Rules: Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins – 30-Minute IronMan Match for the IC Title

Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins in a 30-Man Iron Man Match for the Intercontinental Championship was the main event for this year’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Since WWE is generating most of their revenue from TV rights, they are able to experiment and play around with the card like this. The match kicked off at 10:07 pm eastern. Ziggler was accompanied to the ring by Drew McIntyre.

Here is a recap written in real-time during the match:

Rollins scored the first pin at 25:20 (Rollins 1, Ziggler 0)
Rollins scored the second pin at 22:01 (Rollins 2, Ziggler 0)

McIntyre attacked Rollins in front of the referee so Rollins scored another fall via DQ (Rollins 3, Ziggler 0). The attack continued at ringside. McIntyre rammed Rollins into the barricade and the ring post before tossing him back in the ring. The referee had enough so he forced McIntyre to leave but not before McIntyre hit the Claymore kick on Rollins.

Ziggler crawled over and scored a pin on the unconscious Rollins (Rollins 3, Ziggler 1). Ziggler immediately hit a superkick and scored a fall (Rollins 3, Ziggler 2) and the announcers said that McIntyre’s attack was worth it because it helped Ziggler score two falls.

Ziggler rammed Rollins into the ring post and then hit the Zig Zag before scoring another fall (Rollins 3, Ziggler 3). Ziggler scored the third fall while his feet were on the ropes and the referee was not looking (Ziggler 4, Rollins 3).

Ziggler evened things up at 3:08 (Rollins 4, Ziggler 4).

Things kicked up into another gear with about 1:00 left in the match. Ziggler hit a famouser and almost pinned Rollins. Ziggler went for the superkick but Rollins countered with his own kick and the curb stomp but the time expired. The match was ruled a draw and Ziggler retained the title.

However, Raw General Manager walked out to the stage. He said that nothing was settled so the match was restarted. McIntyre appeared on the ring apron and the distraction allowed Ziggler to run in and hit the Zig Zag for the win.
